2017 The Aldo Grenache

                  Toni Paterson
High-toned aromatics of satsuma plum and fragrant wild raspberries. The palate has impressive palate tension and structure. There is a mild herbaceous thread that adds depth, interest and freshness. A delicious, and intriguing wine 08 APR 2019

Medium to full red/purple colour, with a white pepper and mixed spice aroma including some clove. Red fruits rather than black. The palate is leaner and lighter-weighted than most of its kind, with elegance and refinement and balance. Some sweet jubey notes mid-palate. It has very good drinkability and it's well-priced. 19 FEB 2019

OLDER REVIEWS

2018 The First Riesling

95 POINTS
Very light colour with a restrained, dried floral and dried herb fragrance. The wine is intense and fresh, lively and crisp, with great line and precision. It's very dry and bracing in its acidity. Excellent wine.

2016 The Aldo Grenache Shiraz

92 POINTS
Very attractive spicy and smoky dark berry aromas, complex and alluring. Sweet fruit middle-palate, delicious wine. Soft tannins, lovely balance and accessibility.

2014 Place in Time Riesling

96 POINTS
Medium yellow colour, bright and still has a green tinge. The bouquet is tremendously complex and enticing, with abundant buttered toast, green lime and other citrusy nuances. A gorgeous aged riesling with plenty of varietal cues but also complexities and the palate is full and rich and giving. A classic medium-aged Aussie dry riesling style.

2012 Place in Time Riesling

97 POINTS
Full, bright buttercup-yellow colour. The bouquet is outstanding: complex, mature and oozing charm, with aromas of hot buttered toast as well as preserved lemon and cured meadow hay. The palate is seamless and intense, precise and long, with lovely balance and a clean, dry aftertaste. A beautiful wine

2017 The First Riesling

95 POINTS
Very light colour, with dusty mineral, dried herb and subtle lemon aromas, the palate crisp and lean, lively and dry, refreshing and light. A wine of real refinement albeit on the leaner side. But it has length. An excellent reserved style of riesling, which should age superbly.

2016 The First Riesling

95 POINTS
Light straw colour with a slaty, reserved, mineral aroma. The palate is fine, tight and mineral, with terrific line and length, refinement and tension. A beautifully delicate, intense, focused riesling which will age superbly.

2014 The Aldo Grenache Shiraz

93 POINTS
Deep red/purple hue. The aromas are shy but clean, pleasant and not too simplistic, but rich and deep, fleshy and spicy, with ample tannins and good concentration. There is density, grip, fruit intensity, all in generous helpings and in good balance. I like the richness and flesh of this wine: it has good extract and the palate lingers on and on. Impressive wine, with a big cellaring future. It will reward an extra year or two in the cellar
